Wild Deer at Nara

While walking through Nara Park and the surrounding parks, there are about 1200 wild deer everywhere. The deer were regarded as messengers of one of Kasuga-jinja's Shinto gods and anyone who killed one was likekly to next in line themselves for a similar fate.
As you can see from the signs, they can be quite troublesome if you're having a picnic or as I saw, a child with some food who made a new but unwanted friend. I filmed one child running away from a deer who was trying to eat its food, as well as schoolchildren who were feeding the deer with special deer biscuits that you can buy for 150 yen.
