Kintai Bridge

On Saturday morning, I met my friends Takako and her husband Koji, and we visited the Kintai Bridge, which is in the Yamaguchi Prefecture, about 45 minutes or so drive from Hiroshima.
The bridge has major historical significance and is a major tourist attraction.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1673 by Hiroyshi Kikkawa, a local district feudal lord to protect the local residents from flooding from the Nishiki River. The 193m bridge uses no nails at all, but instead uses some clamps and wires to fasten it.
The sakura is coming to an end here, leaving a さくらじゅうたん('sakura juutan or carpet). The beautiful petals were falling like snow, leaving a pink covering on the ground.
