View from Hiroshima Peace Museum

This is the view from the Hiroshima Peace Museum, which almostseems ironic title, as the museum brutally details the impact of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It's not ironic because the people of Hiroshima are obviously determined to push for world peace, although many think their efforts are futile. However, from their experiences, the Hiroshimans feel tha they have no choice.
I spent about 2 and a half hours in the museum and read and saw every exhibition. The museum was very balanced in that it does not deny the aggression and acts of war of the Japanese people. The context clearly places the atom bomb attack in terms of an act of war, in an almost unemotional manner. Ironically, this made the rational detailing of the impact of the bomb so overwhelming that not being moved was impossible.
Listening to story after story of whole whole families were wiped out, how children were left without parents, and the long term impact of the radiation was horrifying. There are still more than 20,000 survivors of that attack living in Hiroshima, and many more throughout Japan.
After the museum, I visited the peace memorial, which was incredibly tranquil and a quiet place for contemplation and prayers for the victims. I'm so glad I went there, as it provided a place for quiet reflection after witnessing what those poor people went through, and are still going through today.
This entire peace park is one of the most incredible places that I have ever visited.
