Lunch at Iwakuni

This was out lunch at Iwakuni when we were visiting the Kintai Bridge. Our upstairs window of the restaurant had a fantastic view, and the food was amazing, which included some local specialities.
Can you see the square of rice on the right hand side of the first pic? It's called "Iwakuni-sushi" which was so pretty, wrapped in delicate ribbons of egg and covered with ginger. The taste was amazing, flavoured with vinegar aand other spices. It;s traditionally prepared in huge quantities, usually enough to feed 150 people at a time! It's made in big slabs which is then chopped up into meal size pieces.

The other local specialty is lotus roots (Iwwakuni renkon) which you can see friied in the first pic, but is often considered best just eaten vinegeared as shown in the pictures below of the separate meals. The lotus roots are the white vegetables in the bowl in the midddle of the trauys with a small dark coloured vegetable garnish.
