Hiroshima Peace Memorial

This is the entrance to the stunning beauty that is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, for the victims of those killed and affected by the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945.
This is the roof of the memorial, which you enter and then visit a beautiful room designed for contemplation, and there is also a victims rooms with photos and names of all of the people killed and affected by the bomb. Seeing their individual faces personalises the horror, especially seeing so many pictures of young children who died during the attacks.
There was also a room with descriptions of the attack by survivors. The horror that these people lived through, and still live with today, is unfathomable. Listening to a woman describe how she lost her two children and husband within an instant. How she knew that they had died because she had laid her children down to sleep and found remants that she could identify but they had been instantly incinerated. And what was even worse, was that this was the norm for the attack, with many families gone forever.
