There were huge crowds of school children when I was there. Even though it's a popular tourist site ands there are oother non-Japanese here, the vast majority of the crowd is Japanese, and I think being non-Japanese makes you ann object of interest to the children. Theey often waved and said 'hello' and if you answered back they got all excited with their friends. Children are the same all over...always teasing and mmaking fun of adults!
