Assimilating influences

This shop window display demonstrates the ability of Japanese culture to take in outside influences and make it their own. Some people told me that Japanese culture is quite closed but I have found it totally the opposite. Looking around you can see a wide variety of influences - US, Europe, China, Korea to name only a tiny fee.
Any strong culture seems to be able to embrace influences without fear and Japan certainly does this with vigour. I find this very admirable.
