Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence

As we were going to Parkes, I gave a ten minute primer on Radio Astronomy on the bus, which ended with a discussion on the role of radio astronomy in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

I feel this inspired the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club to take up the search, which discovered this possible candidate. The potential alien was first identified by their unusual appearance, but our suspicions were raised by their use of a strange device, which someone said the "it's music, Jim, but not as we know it."

We'll have further news after we get the dissection results back from Area 51.

In the meantime, if you would like to participate in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence from your home PC, check out the SETI@home project at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/

I'm serious - it's real science!
